Umno will not abandon MIC and MCA says Zahid Hamidi
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasised that UMNO will not abandon its long-standing political allies, MCA and MIC, especially during difficult times.
He said that while Umno has its own difficulties, the party’s political allies face even greater challenges.
“When we face difficulties, theirs are even greater, so we must always stand together,” he said.
He noted that MCA and MIC have consistently stood by UMNO, such as helping to secure non-Malay votes.
He urged UMNO members to recognize that UMNO is no longer as dominant as it was in the past when it led Barisan Nasional (BN).
He added that as part of the unity government, UMNO should understand its current role and weight, and he called on all UMNO members to support the unity government and prove their worth through their capabilities.
He said this while officiating the Kota Raja Umno division meeting at the Premiere Klang Hotel today.
Media reports had previously reported that some factions within MCA were dissatisfied and considering quitting, but MCA leadership has dismissed these claims as rumours.
The biggest reason for their satisfaction was seat distribution.
MIC might also be contemplating leaving BN.
A source within MIC said they too have similar concerns, including issues with seat allocations and unfulfilled government commitments.
