Avoid protests in the UK
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan advised Malaysians in or visiting the UK to avoid protest areas and register with the Malaysian High Commission in London for safety.
“Malaysians are advised not to be in areas likely to be targets, and to stay in contact with the embassy so we can ensure they are safe,” he said, reported NST.
Mohamad noted that recent protests in European countries reveal a troubling trend of increased intolerance from far-right groups and expressed hope that this unrest does not escalate further.
He also highlighted that the dissemination of false information on social media poses serious risks and exacerbates issues within a country.
The ministry has announced that Malaysians requiring consular help should contact the Malaysian High Commission in London, located at 45-46 Belgrave Square, London, UK.
Alternatively, the commission can be reached at +44 20 3931 6196 or +44 20 7235 8033, or email mwlondon@kln.gov.my.
Riots erupted in Southport, England, last week following the stabbing of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party.
Rumours alleging that the attacker was an immigrant fuelled the riots.
This incited far-right groups to create chaos which quickly spread across England.
United Kingdom authorities have confirmed that the suspect was not an immigrant.
On Sunday, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned far-right protesters that they would “regret” their role in the worst riots England has seen in 13 years.
