PM Anwar accepts Meta’s apology for removing Haniyeh’s posts

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has acknowledged Meta’s apology for deleting his condolence posts about the late Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Facebook and Instagram.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil hoped that this situation would not repeat.

“I took note, I contacted the prime minister, and he acknowledged Meta’s apology,” Fahmi said.

“The prime minister said that he read the news in the Middle East, meaning that the apology reached him worldwide.

“We hope this incident does not happen again,” he said, reported RTM at the Communications Ministry’s monthly assembly.

Recently, Meta removed several posts about the late Hamas leader, including one by Anwar that paid tribute to Haniyeh.

Following the incident, Malaysia requested an explanation from Meta.

On August 6, Meta Platforms apologised for removing content related to the assassination of Haniyeh from Anwar’s Facebook and Instagram accounts

Meta said they have restored the content with an appropriate newsworthy label.
