No need to blame corruption on non-Muslims, says deputy IGP

There is no need to blame the issue of corruption on non-Muslims, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

He has strongly condemned efforts by some quarters to frame corruption as a racial issue.

“Even this (issue of corruption) has been turned into a racial issue,” he said.

“If we (Muslims) truly have strong faith, we wouldn’t take bribes.

“There is no need to blame others. There is no need to blame non-Muslims,” Ayob said in a video posted on his Facebook page.

In the video, Ayob condemned those who accept bribes, describing them as some of the most reprehensible individuals.

“They think there’s nothing wrong with taking bribes.

“Many people take bribes; many officials are involved in bribery.

“Nowadays, everyone is a bribe-taker, Ayob said.

“They are trying to justify their actions. These are truly the most wicked people,” he said.

Ayob emphasised the importance of reporting corruption to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and urged people to take responsibility for their actions rather than deflecting blame onto others.

“This is what I mean when I say those who distort the facts to question the actions of the MACC or government agencies are wrong,” he added.

Pas president Abdul Hadi Awang claimed that non-Muslims were the root cause of corruption in 2022, leading to multiple police reports and an investigation.

In response, Pas leader Zuhdi Marsuki cited a university survey from 2010 to 2014 that purportedly showed non-Malays were the most frequently convicted for bribery, though he did not specify which survey.
