“Education allows students to develop noble beliefs and become well-rounded talents.
“However, some children may not receive quality education due to financial constraints.
“Thus, this year, Bank of China (Malaysia) has allocated RM100,000 to assist students from Chinese independent schools who face financial difficulties but remain determined to pursue their dreams,” said Bank of China (Malaysia) Bhd chief risk officer (CRO) Anysia Yeung.
Yeung said that students in need can apply for the scholarship through their schools.
Dong Zong will oversee the approval process, he added.
Dong Zong vice president Ng Siau Men, was thankful for the support.
He highlighted that financing for Chinese independent schools has always been tight, having to rely heavily on societal support for Chinese education.
“The growth of (Chinese) independent school education is a result of collective effort and unity,” Ng said.

On July 26, MoE said that Chinese schools can accept donations if processed through School Management Boards (LPS) and foundations.
However, MoE said that sponsorship of activities involving alcoholic beverage brands must exclude Muslim students.
