Canning Rep wants MB Sanusi canned over new regulations
Canning state assemblyperson Jenny Choy wanted Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor canned over the new regulations that prohibit performers from wearing provocative outfits.
“Sanusi should step down from his position as state leader.
“These restrictions will only exacerbate tensions among different groups, especially in a diverse society where exclusion and limitations spark greater social controversy,” Choy said.
“Entertainment events, including concerts, are not only a part of the entertainment industry but also crucial for boosting tourism and the local economy.
“If Kedah wants to attract tourists during Visit Kedah Year 2025, it must demonstrate true openness and inclusivity,” she said, reported China Press.
New guidelines for concert organizers have been introduced in Kedah.
Sanusi said that concerts can be held in Kedah, as long as performers avoid wearing revealing outfits.
Meanwhile, controversy recently erupted in Terengganu when the Terengganu City Council banned female performers from participating in the Guan Di Temple festival.
Terengganu Exco Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said the event breached state entertainment guidelines due to its location in a public space.
He claimed that the presence of female performers at the temple might inadvertently expose Muslim men to their performances.
DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng dismissed Wan Sukairi’s reasoning as ridiculous, while DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok accused Terengganu of misinterpreting regulations to suppress non-Muslim cultural events.
