Rachael Lillis, Pokémon voice actor, dies from breast cancer
Pokémon voice actor Rachael Lillis (46), known for voicing Misty and Jessie in the English dubs of the 1990s Pokémon anime and film, has died from breast cancer.
Her death was confirmed by her sister, Laurie Orr.
“With a heavy heart, I regret to say that Rachael has passed away.
“She passed peacefully Saturday night, without pain, and for that we are grateful,” Orr said.
“She is with God, the angels, and the family that has passed before her, surrounded by infinite love.
“We ask for peace, for now, as her family grieves this loss,” she said on the GoFundMe page.
Orr has set up a GoFundMe (GFM) page for Rachael in May to cover her medical expenses.
Orr revealed that Lillis was deeply touched by the outpouring of support and generosity from friends and supporters.
“She likened the response to this fund to the movie It’s A Wonderful Life when George is surprised to learn just how much he is loved by his friends and how much they do care!
“She was moved to tears when seeing the GFM page with your comments and kind thoughts,” added Orr.
Veronica Taylor, Lillis’ Pokémon co-star and the voice of Ash Ketchum honoured her late castmate with a tribute on social media.
“Rachael was an extraordinary talent, a bright light that shone through her voice whether speaking or singing.
“She will forever be remembered for the many animated roles she played,” Taylor said, reported The Star.
“I am not sure how this very dark void will be filled now that her light no longer shines in it.
“Like the shooting stars in the Perseids, Rachael was a magnificent wonder and truly special.
“She burned bright and vanished too soon. She will live on in our memories for eternity,” she added.
