Akmal Saleh responds to Kok on comic book ban call

Umno Youth chief Dr. Akmal Saleh responded to DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok’s comments on his call for the government to reinstate the ban on the comic book titled Belt and Road Initiative for Win-Winism.

Yesterday Kok had said that Akmal and Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi should respect the court’s ruling and abandon outdated, divisive, and fear-based thinking.

“Who said we (Umno) do not respect the court decision? Respecting it doesn’t mean we agree with it,” Akmal said.

“That’s why we are asking the government to file a judicial review against the decision, in line with the laws, as the matter is sensitive to the Malays,” Akmal said, reported FMT.

He also volunteered to clarify the concerns to Kok in Mandarin if she had any difficulty understanding the issue.

“If you still do not understand what is meant, let me know, and I can draw it for you or translate it into Mandarin,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Home Ministry lifted the ban on the comic book which was co-authored by former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau.

The comic book was banned in October 2019 for promoting communism and socialism.
