PH will not contest Mahkota
The Mahkota state seat will not be contested by Pakatan Harapan, confirmed Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail who is the coalition chief secretary.
“PH’s top leadership had a meeting last week that was chaired by (PH president) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and deemed that the Mahkota state seat will not be contested by a PH candidate in the upcoming by-election,” he said in a statement.
He added that PH agreed to respect the principle of incumbency that was practiced by its ally BN during the by-elections in Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats in Sept 2023.
The issue of fielding a PH candidate was raised by Kluang AMANAH division.
The by-election in Mahkota, Johor would be held on Sept 28 following the death of its incumbent Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.
Nomination day is on Sept 14 and early voting is on Sept 24.
Earlier today, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that his coalition has finalised a new face to defend the seat.
