RCI report on Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks, South Ledge to be debated in parliament

Law and Institutional Reforms Minister Datuk Azalina Othman Said confirmed that the Royal Commission of Inquiry report on the sovereignty of Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge will be debated in the parliament.

“The Cabinet is concerned about issues related to the country’s sovereignty and has decided that the RCI report is to be tabled in Parliament, and the recommendations debated,” she said in a statement today.

The report was presented to the Cabinet yesterday by the RCI chairman Tun Md Raus Sharif.

The RCI was set up to resolve issues regarding the national sovereignty of the above mentioned areas in February.

Johor, in particular, wanted an explanation of the reasons and factors behind the decision not to pursue the Application for Review and Request for Interpretation at the International Court of Justice concerning the sovereignty issues.

The decision not to pursue the three areas were made during the second term of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister under the Pakatan Harapan government.
