Massive protests in Israel

Strong protests hit Israel following the discovery of the death of six hostages in Gaza against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Crowds numbering 500,000 hit the cities of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other cities demanding Netanyahu to do more to bring home the remaining 101 hostages. Of this number, one third are estimated to have died.

Protestors demonstrated in front of Netanyahu’s home in Jerusalem.

Police have directed water canons against those who blocked roads. About 29 have been arrested.

Labour leaders have called for a general strike today, Reuters reported.

Netanyahu who is facing calls to end the 11 month conflict via a ceasefire and release of hostages is adamant that Israel will not rest until those responsible are apprehended.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a hardline member of Israel’s security cabinet, asked the attorney general to prohibit the strike.

The Hostage Families Forum called on Netanyahu to take responsibility and explain what was holding up an agreement.
