SG4 nothing more than a political propaganda for optics
The notion of sharing wealth and resources between four states held by the opposition through the establishment of corporate entity called SG4 Group Sdn Bhd is nothing more than a political propaganda, said Nusantara Academy for Strategic Research senior fellow, Associate Professor Azmi Hassan.
He said the establishment was done to create a perception that the states in SG4 are in much better state compared to those administered by Umno or PH.
“It looks good on paper but in reality would it succeed. Would the state that has its potentials exploited agree? Would the people in the state agree as they would feel unfair to share their wealth with states that do not have rich resources including rare earth elements,” he said, Scoop reported.
He also pointed out that just three months ago the Terengganu government disagreed with the Sea Territorial Act 2012 that limits a state’s maritime border to three nautical miles which is equivalent to 5.5 km from the beach.
“Terengganu disagreed because they claimed the resources are theirs. Actually the act is enacted so that Petronas benefits from petroleum exploration. It would then share the proceeds with states with no petroleum.
Terengganu is displaying its hypocrisy as it opposed over Petronas but agrees to SG4. This is nothing more than a political propaganda to create a perception that SG4 states are better administered compared to Umno or Pakatan Harapan.
So let’s wait for the reports from this joint company.
Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu each have a 25% stake in SG4 Group Sdn Bhd.
