Malaysia on priority list to join BRICS
Malaysia is among nations that are on the priority list as potential BRICS members, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He pointed out that the a key issue discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday was whether Malaysia can join immediately or start as a partner nation.
“The important point is that we are one of the countries given priority due to the invitation extended to non-member nations,” he said at a press conference on the final day of his working visit to Russia.
Anwar also said that the prime ministers of India and China and the president of Brazil were also very positive in having Malaysia within the BRICS framework.
“We are considering BRICS because we believe that the cooperation of Southern countries within the Global South is highly beneficial,” he added.
