De-escalate now, reduce hostilities in the Middle East, PM Anwar calls out
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called upon all the warring parties in the Middle East to de-escalate amid fears that it would become a global conflict
“We must urgently prevent a dangerous cycle of action and reaction, which threatens to draw even more parties into the conflict, further deepening instability and broadening the scale of destruction.
“Malaysia urges all concerned parties to take immediate action to reduce hostilities and establish conditions necessary to prevent a broader regional conflict from erupting.
“Malaysia strongly calls on all parties in the Middle East to urgently de-escalate the heightening tensions that are destabilising the region,” he said in a statement via his social media channels.
Anwar who is sympathetic to the Palestinian cause also took Israel to task.
“The continued aggression and attacks by Israel in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen are deliberate attempts to divert the global community’s focus from its brutal atrocities and acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
“This escalation is plainly aimed at keeping Israel’s current political leaders in power and out of prison, sacrificing innocent lives at the altar of one man’s political career.”
After an all out military operation in Gaza, Israel went after Lebanon based Hezbollah that is backed by Iran.
It prompted the escalation of the conflict.
