Fahmi willing to mediate to resolve unpaid salaries at TMI, The Vibes

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has offered has offered to mediate on the issue of unpaid salary involving media practitioners in The Malaysian Insight (TMI) and The Vibes.

“This is unacceptable. It shouldn’t be happening. We want a free press, but a free press is not free (without salary),” he told reporters in Busan, South Korea, today.

“I am ready to be a mediator. Before this, we have already assisted with the welfare of some workers from these media organisations. Now, the companies must make things right and settle their debts,” he said.

Both The Vibes and The Malaysian Insight is owned by the PETRA Group chairman, Vinod Sekhar who is currently seeking treatment in India.

The issue of unpaid wages and dues was once again raised by the National Union of Journalists and Geramm yesterday.
