PM: Definitely considering legal action against Bloomberg

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that he is considering to take up legal action against international media Bloomberg that published reports alleging that the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission took action based on instruction directly from him during its investigations against certain individuals, such as former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin.

“The MACC itself has made a strong statement denying the said defamation because what happened were only general orders that I had given, including in Parliament,” he said during Prime Minister’s Question Time this morning.

“Legal action is currently being considered as the police have received reports and are investigating the matter,” he added.

Bloomberg in its report last month cited three sources who claimed that Anwar ordered MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki to probe his rivals that included Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Daim Zainuddin.

The media also alleged that Anwar ordered Azam against investigating his former aide Datuk Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak over the latter’s purchase of shares in Hei Tech Padu Bhd.
