DVS confirms ops to dispose stray dogs killed Kopi
The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) confirmed that the death of a friendly stray dog, Kopi was due to an capture and disposal operation involving wild dogs that was conducted by the Besut District Council on Oct 6.
“The operation which was conducted on Oct 6 in Kampung Raja, Paya Rawa. Pengkalan Nyireh, Air Tawar, Tanjung Demong, Gelam Mas and Jertih involved 25 officers and staff from the Besut District Office, Besut district Veterinar’s Office and Kota Putera State Assembly Office,” it said in a statement.
On the same note, the department gave its word that it would update concerned parties regarding the ;atest updates investigation according to Animal Welfare Act.
Yesterday a group of 300 individuals representing over 12 NGOs who demanded justice over the death of Kopi, a friendly dog that was killed by the Besut District Council and all the relevant offices.
“The director general failed to give us a time frame within which time they must have concluded their probe,” said S Shashi Kumar to Harapan Daily.
He had led the group to handover a memorandum to DVS yesterday.
The memorandum raised four questions in an attempt to understand what led to the operation to the killing of Kopi.
The four are related to dog population, authorization to kill dogs, threat assessments and diseases that can lead to public health concerns.
It also highlighted the rampant killing of dogs over the years.
