Third woman set to be Chief Justice of Malaya

The third woman set to be Chief Justice of Malaya is Datuk Seri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim, The Edge reported. citing an anonymous source.

Hasnah who is at present Federal Court judge would be receiving her appointment from Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Istana Negara tomorrow morning.

The swearing-in would be held tomorrow afternoon at the Palace of Justice.

The media has been invited by the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia but it did not specify anything regarding Hasnah.

Hasnah may set to be third woman to hold the post. The inaugural female chief justice was Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob (2005) and Tan Sri Zaharah Ibrahim (2018).

The chief justice post has been vacant for the past nine months.

If Hasnah is confirmed taking over the Chief Justice of Malaya position tomorrow, the 65-year-old would have a year to serve before her mandatory retirement age of 66. She may receive a six-month extension thereafter.

In a related development Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar has been appointed as the new attorney general from tomorrow onwards, announced Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Dusuki who heads the AGC’s Trial and Appeals Division would be replacing Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh. Ahmad has been appointed as Federal Court judge.
