Lebanon – Israel 60-day ceasefire in the making

A ceasefire deal is being drawn by the US and France to bring about a 60-day ceasefire for Lebanon and Israel.

This is being worked out as Hezbollah is launching attacks on Israel from the south of Lebanon.

The 60-day ceasefire would allow the withdrawal of the Israeli Defence Forces from south Lebanon and allow Lebanese army to be deployed there.

The ceasefire would be monitored by a five country committee, chaired by the United States. Another prominent member in the committee is France.

It is very likely that a security parameter would not be established.

The Hezbollah would be required to withdraw back to the north of the Litani River.

The Hezbollah has been at war with Israel, in solidarity with Hamas in Gaza, since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct 7 last year.
