Would the Kuala Lumpur – Singapore High Speed Rail project be revived?
Would the Kuala Lumpur – Singapore High Speed Rail project be revived?
That would be known as early as end of this month or early January 2025.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that the policy paper on this project would not determine its revival. He added that Putrajaya would need to reengage Singapore since it is a cross-border project.
“Just to manage (the public’s) expectations, it (cabinet approval) is not the final say on the project, but rather a question of where we go from here,” Loke told NST.
“It is a cross-border project, and can only be finalised and take off after negotiations with the Singapore government.”
The 350 km project was signed between the two nations on Feb 2013 with a completion dateline in 2026 but a change of government here in 2018 led to the project being canned.
The work was suspended in Sept 2018 and the project was terminated in 2021 since both governments failed to agree on changes that was sought by Putrajaya.
It resulted in us paying Singapore S$102.8 million in compensation.
