Outgoing President Biden to send US$8 billion of weapon consignment to Israel
Outgoing US president Joe Biden wants the US Congress to approve a US$8 billion in weapon consignment sale to Israel.
This was confirmed by the US Department of State.
The weapons consignment that require the approvals of both the House and Senate committees includes missiles, shells and other munitions.
It is also made up of air-to-air missiles, Hellfire missiles, artillery shells and bombs, reported the BBC.
This move comes just 14 days before Trump takes oath as the incoming president.
In August 2024 the US approved the sale of fighter jets and other military equipment to Israel to the tune of US$20 billion.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) statistics indicate that the US accounted for 69% of Israel’s imports of major conventional arms between 2019 and 2023.
