Political coup? Not happening since GPS is backing PM Anwar
No political coup for the federal government would be successful without the participation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and the coalition is now backing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
“Why (is there a) need to replace him (Anwar) when his term has not ended yet?” he was quoted as saying by New Straits Times today.
“If people are not happy with us (coalition government), then (they should) wait for the general election.
“But at this moment, don’t (force change),” he added.
Abang Johari said this in reaction to the ongoing preoccupation of some who are determined to replace Anwar as the prime minister.
He however did not name names.
GPS has 23 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.
Last month Perak Opposition Leader Razman Zakaria who is also Perak Pas chief and Gunung Semanggol state assemblyman revealed there are plans by federal opposition coalition, Perikatan Nasional to form a back door government before the 16th general election.
There are also murmurs by certain quarters that Pas is courting Umno via a rally for Najib tomorrow.
Umno however, has backed down from organising the rally in front of Palace of Justice.
The Court of Appeal would be hearing Najib’s appeal regarding a royal addendum tomorrow.
