UiTM converting its non-Muslim Bumiputera students?
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) that is open to Bumiputeras (including non-Muslims) and foreign students have come under the spotlight on social media for the wrong reasons – converting its non-Muslim Bumiputera students.
A post by a Facebook user indicated that UiTM requires students in certain degree programmes to fulfill a conversion quota to graduate.
Most recently, an event called Kem Jati Diri dan Kerohanian Siri ke-20 was organised over the weekend at UITM’s Shah Alam campus mosque.
It was compulsory for all non-Muslims and 10 Muslim students from the same class to attend in person whereas others are required to attend online meetings via Webex.
The event itinerary indicates that it involved all first semester students.
On 11 January, the non-Muslims were required to attend a talk on social ethics. This is the only agenda that differentiated them from the Muslim students.
Many Facebook users are questioning the need for the non-Muslims to sit through Muslim prayer sessions and religious talks.
