Indians will not be left out, PM Anwar reiterates in his Ponggal wishes
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated that the government would not let any groups or communities, especially the Indians, to be left out.
“On the part of the government, we will continue to work hard to ensure no groups would be left out, especially the Indians.
“Poverty among the Indians will continue to be a priority issue for the government,” he said via social media late yesterday.
The message was relayed in conjunction with the Ponggal celebration held today.
On a similar note, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu highlighted the importance of Ponggal in his wishes.
“This festival reminds us the importance of appreciating the environment and the hardwork of farmers as the backbone to the nation.”
Ponggal is a Hindu harvest festival celebrated by the Tamils in the month of Thai.
Other ethnic Indian communities also celebrate this festival. The Telugu community, for instance celebrates it as Makar Sankrathi.
The Punjabis celebrate it as Lohri/Maghi.
On that note, Hindus – be it Tamils or otherwise, celebrate New Year in April, in the Tamil month of Chittirai.
