Should we bring back Hambali? Indonesia mulls

Indonesia is mulling over ways that it can bring back Guantamo Bay detainee Riduan Isamuddin who is better known as Hambali.

Hambali who stands accused of some of the deadliest attacks in Indonesia including the 2002 bombings in Bali, Indonesia and financing the Jakarta Mariott Hotel bombing in 2003.

Hambali who led Jemaah Islamiyah was arrested in 2003 in a US led ops in Thailand and transferred to Guantanamo in 2006.

Indonesia’s senior minister for law and human rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra pointed out that the statute of limitations on Indonesia’s cases against Hambali had expired.

“No matter what, Hambali is an Indonesian citizen. No matter how wrong he is … we must care for him,” Yusril said, according to Antara. Yusril did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Hambali is also suspected to be involved in the plotting of the Sept 11 attack in the US but thus far it has not been disclosed whether he admitted his involvement in all three of the above mentioned attacks.

Jemaah Islamiyah itself has been disbanded.

Yusril is reported to have said that Indonesia will discuss plans to repatriate Hambali.
