What is the number of Indians in Malaysian civil service?

There is a total of 47,960 Indians in the Malaysian civil service.

“Of this figure, 255 are in the top management group, 31,116 are in officers in the management and professional group and 16,589 are officers in executors groups.

“They are part of the total 1,266,474 civil servants in the Human Resource Management Information System,” said Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa in a written reply.

The data doesn’t include those in the police and military service.

She said this in response to a question from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) who asked for the statistics of civil servants from the Indian community and efforts undertaken to raise the number of non-Malays in the civil service.

As for efforts to increase the number of non-Malay civil servants, Zaliha said that the Public Service commission participated in 47 programs and 15 nationwide tours in 2024.

“SPA will also cooperate with higher education institutions to raise understanding on career opportunities and intake among the Indian community.

“Among the programs scheduled is the Career Tour for Indian Community in Sungai Siput, Perak that is slated to take place in September 2025.”
