Missionary, vernacular schools do receive financial assistance for maintenance upgrades, utilities

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has given assurances that both vernacular and missionary schools would receive its due assistance to cover rising maintenance and electricity bills.

“For the year year 2024, the government allocated RM44,942,952.60 to Chinese primary schools, RM 17,835,145.40 to Tamil primary schools and RM16.q9 million to missionary schools.

The ministry has a special allocation for minor maintenance and upgrade work for government aided schools specifically for toilets amounting to RM134.33 million.

“A total of RM124.73 million was channelled for the upgrade and minor maintenance for toilets government aided schools and the balance was for other minor maintenance works.

“For school utilities, the government is footing schools utilities bill with a maximum of RM5,000 monthly.”

She said this in a written reply to Fong Kui Lun (PH-Bukit Bintang) who asked whether the government has plans to increase assistance to missionary and vernacular schools due to the rising maintenance and electricity costs.
