ERA FM facing suspension?

ERA FM that has been under the spotlight after three of its radio deejays mocked the religious celebration have been slapped with a license suspension intention notice.

“A license suspension intention notice have been handed over to the license holder of those handling ERA FM radio station.

“The license holder has been given 30 days to provide a response before a decision is taken,” said the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in a statement today.

In addition to that the MCMC is also probing the matter under section 233 of the 1998 Communication and Multimedia Act

Yesterday a video clip of three ERA FM deejays where there were mocking the chants of “vel vel” that is usually used for kavadi carriers during Thaipusam.

The trio were also questioned by the police earlier today.

On another note, MCMC confirmed that stand up comedian Harith Iskander and Facebook user Cecilia Yap were slapped with a compound of RM10,000 each for uploading content that insulted Islam.

Meta too have shut down their Facebook accounts.

Earlier today Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh had supported that action be taken against ERA FM deejays.

He also questioned on the action that was taken against Harith and Yap.
