Take action against Zamri Vinoth for violating 3R, Home Minister told
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan (BN-Tapah) has urged Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to take action against Indian Muslim convert preacher Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu as the latter made an offensive comparison of Hindus chanting “vel vel” during Thaipusam with possessed or intoxicated individuals.
“This is a clear violation of the 3R (race, religion, royalty) principles upheld by the Madani government.
“Such inflammatory statements threaten our nation’s harmony and must not go unpunished,” he said, Malaysiakini reported.
“Zamri’s repeated offences demonstrate a total lack of sensitivity and respect for Malaysia’s multireligious society. His words are a direct insult to the Hindu faith and its rich cultural heritage,” the devoted kavadi carrier stressed.
“Each time he makes such offensive remarks, he hides behind weak excuses to evade accountability.
“This pattern must end. Firm action is necessary to uphold harmony and mutual respect in our society.”
In a Facebook posting, Zamri said people are not insulted when “Hindus chant ‘vel vel’ and dance as if they are possessed (macam orang kena rasuk) while intoxicated (mabuk todi) but they are offended others merely imitate them.
He said this in view of the controversy created by three ERA FM deejays.
Zamri also claimed in a caption that chanting “vel vel” did not lead to the loss of life, in reference to the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim who died during a riot outside a Hindu temple in Subang Jaya seven years ago.
