The number of Indians in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) amounts to 1.4 percent, revealed Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin.

“As of 31 Dec 2024, the total members of the Malaysian Armed Forces of Malaysian Indians are 1,670 personnel which is 1.4 percent of the total manpower of the ATM.

“Though their numbers are small, ATM has been conducting promotions in schools, malls and career exhibitions to woo the young.

“In addition to that, the reintroduction National Service is expected to draw the young from the Chinese and Indian communities to join ATM,” he said in a written reply.

He said this in response to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) who asked for the number of Malaysian Indians who joined either the Air Force, Navy or the Army.
