Jelutong MP doubles down on quick action from AG, police against controversial preacher
Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has reiterated calls previously made by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo for quick action to be taken by the Attorney General (AG) and police against controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu who defiantly republished offensive statements regarding the rituals related to Thaipusam.
He also pointed out that Zamri’s actions defied the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang.
“The Attorney General and the Police must act without fear or favour in upholding Article 11 of the Federal Constitution which guarantees the right of every citizen to profess and practice the religion of his choice free from any interference and insults,” he said in a statement
“Zamri Vinoth continues to insult, belittle and ridicule Thaipusam, a much revered Hindu religious festival and relate it to the death of Adib Kassim in attempt to stir and stoke racial and religious tension and unrest in this peaceful country despite hundreds of police reports being lodged against him nationwide.
“For the record this is not the first time hundreds of police reports have been lodged against Zamri Vinoth.
“In the recent incident despite being summoned by the police to have his statement taken and having his Facebook posting temporarily removed Zamri Vinoth has brazenly reposted his Facebook comments and gone further to justify his act of mocking Thaipusam.
“Zamri Vinoth by his actions remains unrepentant , remorseless and continues to defy the laws of this country to the dismay and anger of Malaysians.
“In fact Zamri Vinoth has shown utter disrespect to the advise of the Prime Minister and the National Unity Minister by repeating his insults and seditious comments on Thaipusam.”
Rayer added that there are precedents that can be followed in the case of Zamri and the ERA FM radio deejays. The deejays have apologised.
“Just like the KK Mart incident where the owners, despite their apology were swiftly hauled up to face charges in Court , I urge the Attorney General and the Police to act immediately and prefer criminal charges against the Era FM deejay’s and Zamri Vinoth without any further delay to demonstrate that there are no double standards on all cases of religious mockery as guaranteed by the Prime Minister recently.”
