Stay out of Ayer Kuning by-election, Pas told
AMANAH vice president Datuk Mahfuz Omar has urged his former party, Pas, to stay out of the Ayer Kuning by-election.
“We believe that the 9,000 votes secured by BN, combined with the 6,000 votes PH previously garnered, will strengthen BN’s chances of defending the seat,” he said, New Straits Times reported.
“I don’t believe Pas stands a chance. Therefore, I would advise them not to waste time and resources. It would be better for Pas to sit out the by-election in honour of the late assemblyman, Ishsam Shahruddin.”
Mahfuz said this as Pas had repeatedly failed to secure the BN stronghold seat that is located in Tapah.
The Ayer Kuning by-election will be held on April 26. Nomination day is set on April 12 and early voting on April 22.
The by-election is held following the death of its incumbent Ishsham Shahruddin on Feb 22. He suffered a heart attack after participating in a football match in Penang.
Ishsam had secured the seat during the 15th general election with a 2,213 vote majority in a five cornered battle.
