Five candidates pull out of DAP’s CEC polls

With just one day before DAP delegates decide on their new central executive committee (CEC), five have candidates have pulled out of the race.

This leaves 65 candidates vying for the 30 seats in the CEC.

Of the five, four are from Penang and one, Negri Sembilan.

Sungai Puyu assemblywman Phee Syn Tze who is also the daughter of Penang DAP strongman Datuk Seri Phee Boon Poh is among them.

The others are former Penang executive councillor Datuk Soon Lip Chee, and Penang DAP branch leaders K. Kalidas and P.R. Kaliyappan.

The sole candidate from Negeri Sembilan is Bukit Kepayang assemblywoman Nicole Tan Lee Khoon.

The four Penang DAP candidates did so in support of secretary general Anthony Loke who has proposed to restructure the CEC.

“This is to emphasise to DAP members in Penang and Malaysia the importance of fully supporting the 3G (third- generation) leadership, particularly in forming a strong and united leadership team to face state and general elections.

“We call on all delegates to give their full support to DAP’s 3G leadershi,” they said in a statement.

The four also said that unity is paramount in Penang DAP since it is the only state led by the DAP.

“To secure a fifth term in the next state election, Penang DAP must remain strong and united.”

The DAP CEC polls which is scheduled to take place tomorrow is viewed as a vital one for DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng.
