Four new positions to be introduced as part of DAP’s reforms

Four new positions would be introduced into the DAP’s central executive committee as part of the party’s continuous reform efforts.

“We will officially introduce several new positions in the CEC structure and include in the party’s constitution,” said DAP secretary general Anthony Loke Siew Fook during the 18th DAP national congress today.

The four are DAP parliamentary chief, strategic director, policy director and election director.

Currently Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming is by default the parliamentary chief.

“I am sorry, Kor Ming. We will appoint a MP who is not a minister or deputy minister. We want them to speak without fear or favour on our party’s stand.

“He is busy with housing issues,” said Loke in reference to the Housing and Local Government Minister.

As for the position of strategic director, the position is synonymous with Liew Chin Tong who is currently the Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister.

However the positions were not part of the party constitution.

In view of this, the party constitution would be amended to introduce the positions during the next DAP national congress next year.

Another reform that is being introduced is the institutionalisation of the candidate selection committee.

DAP’s women’s wing chief would be part of the candidate selection committee.

In addition to that, 30% of the candidates for parliament would be made up of women, effective from the 16th general election.

On another note, Loke also said that the party would soften its stand against accepting honorific titles from the sultans.

“After 17 years, we would look back into the conditions to accept honorifics. The Sultan of Selangor wants to give a Datukship to Ng Suee Lim (Selangor state for local government, new village development and tourism).

“If there are any names proposed, raise it up to the CEC. We will consider it based on conditions. It will be on case to case basis,” he said.
