Allocate RM5 million to support the education, welfare of Penang Hindus

A senator has called upon the federal government to allocate RM5 million annually for the Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) to enable it to provide education and welfare support for the Hindus in Penang.

“In the last two years, this board has spent RM906,425 to assist close 1,100 individuals including poor students, families from lower income group and senior citizens in dire need for help.

“The board has been relying completely on the state government allocation and contribution from the society, which is very limited.

“I would like to request the government to consider an allocation of at least RM5 million annually to support the education and welfare of Hindus in Penang,” said Senator Dr A Lingeshwaran during the Dewan Negara session yesterday.

He who is also PHEB vice chair pointed out that letters have been submitted to the government regarding this matter. However the request for allocation has fallen on deaf ears, thus far.

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer who is also PHEB board chairman had previously called for annual federal government allocation to be given to PHEB.
