Umno-PH coalition for Sabah state polls? Umno will decide

Would Umno – Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition materialise in time for the upcoming 17th Sabah state election?

That is the gist of the matter that would be determined by Umno supreme council at a meeting tonight at 8 pm.

A proposed memorandum of understanding involving both parties in Sabah would be also be tabled, said a source, reported Malaysiakini.

“These matters will be presented (to the Umno leadership). Then we will bring it to the meeting tomorrow (today), and it can be finalised and decided as part of the wish list.

“The cooperation and MOU for facing the upcoming Sabah state election will be decided,” the source said.

The MOU would serve as a safeguard against any attempts of sabotage including the risk of party-hopping among candidates.

“The aim is to avoid what has happened in the past and ensure a more stable partnership,” said the source.

Seat negotiations will be discussed too.

Tonight’s session will also probably discuss on the proposed secretariat to work together in the state polls.

“This is one of the main aims – to form a secretariat that will coordinate seat distribution to avoid clashes and ensure a united front in Sabah,” the source said.

Sabah Umno chief Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin confirmed that his party would cooperate with PH on April 13.

DAP secretary general Anthony Loke however said that PH has not made an official decision yet.

“Any decision on this matter will be made during an official meeting of the coalition in the near future,” he said.
