WFH, PdPR during Asean Summit?

Government spokesman and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that Putrajaya has not reached an ultimatum on whether civil servants would be allowed to work from home (WFH) and students placed on home-based teaching and learning during the upcoming Asean Summit, scheduled to take place end of this month.

“The focus is on those working in or around the Asean Summit venue and areas where several major meetings will be held,” he said.

“According to the calendar, the summit is expected to take place at the end of May. I believe we will have more information after the upcoming cabinet meeting, either this week or next,” said Fahmi.

He said this to the media after attending the Universiti Malaya Public Health Campaign: Diabetes is Not a Barrier event at IWK Ecopark Pantai Dalam.

He pointed out that the decisions would be handled by the Public Services Department director-general and Education Ministry respectively.

The proposal for WFH and PdPR was initially raised by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan as a response to public frustration over road closures during China President Xi Jinping’s visit to Malaysia in April.

At least 17 major roads and highways were closed or rerouted in stages during Xi’s time here.
