Penang MIC: Extend five percent discount on selected public housing to all

The five percent discount on selected public housing schemes for Indian Muslims should be given to all locals, said Penang MIC chief Datuk J Dhinagaran.

Yesterday Penang Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo announced a five percent discount for Indian Muslims to purchase residential and commercial units under the newly introduced Madani Home Ownership Campaign (MOC).

“While we sincerely appreciate the Sundarajoo’s wise experience in housing development which has led to initiatives that ease the financial burden of homebuyers we strongly urge the government to extend this benefit to all eligible citizens across Penang,” Dhinagaran said.

“In the current challenging economic climate where the cost of living continues to rise; such initiatives should not be limited to specific groups or selected housing projects.

“Instead, the 5% discount should be available for all housing projects, giving every Penangite a fair and equal opportunity to own a home.”

He also called upon the federal government to emulate similar policies at the national level since affordable housing is a major concern.

“A nationwide scheme would offer meaningful support to the B40 and M40 income groups particularly young families striving for homeownership.”

The state should review the decision made and expand the scope of this policy to all residents here, said Dhinagaran in a statement.

“It will ensure inclusivity, equity, and greater impact, enabling more people to benefit from the vision of affordable home ownership,” he said.
