Minister proposes the establishment of Belt and Road Science and Technology Research Consortium
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang has proposed for the establishment of Belt and Road Science and Technology Research Consortium.
“I had the honour of delivering a speech at the 2nd Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange in Chengdu, China, where I proposed the establishment of a “Belt and Road Science and Technology Research Consortium”.”
“This consortium would serve as a platform for joint research, cross-border collaboration, and the fair, mutually beneficial sharing of intellectual property, focusing on critical areas such as artificial intelligence, low-carbon and green technologies, space science, and biotechnology,” he said in a LinkedIn post.
“This initiative reflects Malaysia’s commitment to deepening multilateral scientific partnerships and embracing open, inclusive innovation.”
“In conjunction with the conference, MOSTI also held a bilateral meeting with the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, building on the momentum of the 3rd Malaysia–China Joint Committee Meeting on Scientific and Technological Innovation which I attended last year in Beijing alongside Minister Yin Hejun.”
Chang added that both nations have reviewed the progress of existing agreements and agreed to accelerate the implementation to ensure impact on the ground.
He added that the collaboration in terms of innovation was vital.
“We also reviewed the progress of existing agreements and agreed to accelerate implementation to ensure on-the-ground impact.
“This year marks 50 years of Malaysia–China diplomatic relations, a timely reminder of how far our cooperation has come and how much further we can go together.
“The recent visits of President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to Malaysia reaffirmed the strategic depth of our bilateral ties.
“In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape and complex geopolitical environment, no nation can innovate in isolation.
“Only through strong, cross-border partnerships can we collectively rise to global challenges.”
He also extended an invitation to his Chinese counterpart to attend the 4th Malaysia–China Joint Committee Meeting on STI in Kuala Lumpur next year.
