Lowest inflation rate 1.2% in May

Malaysia recorded its lowest inflation rate in 51 months in May this year at 1.2 percent in May this year, with 134.4 index points.

Statistics Department (DOSM) said the slower inflation was parallel to selected countries and regions that recorded slower increases in line with decline in global oil prices.

The inflation rates are Eurozone (1.9 per cent), South Korea (1.9 per cent), Indonesia (1.6 per cent) and Philippines (1.3 per cent).

“The decline was also reflected through Producer Price Index (PPI), local production, which registered a -3.4 per cent in April this year,” DOSM said in a statement.
