Thailand – Cambodia border clash: Peace is the only option, says PM Anwar

As ASEAN chair, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that peace is the only option for Thailand and Cambodia.

“I have messaged both PMs. I am looking forward to speak to them this evening or tonight. Developments are concerning. They are close to Malaysia. The least is we can expect them to stand down.

“Peace is the only option available.

“We will communicate and express our views to both PMs.

“I had initial discussions with both PM and now we will send messages that I am looking forward to talk them.”

He also hoped both the ASEAN nations would stand down.

Both of the ASEAN member states clashed along a disputed section of their border after weeks of simmering tension.

Clashes first broke out near a Khmer Hindu temple, Ta Muen Thom.

Both sides have accused each other of sparking the clashes.

A day ago, both nations recalled their envoys and downgraded diplomatic relations.
