Apologise to the disabled community and DAP, Akmal
DAP Socialist Youth Federal Territories chief Yap Vee Vonne demanded an apology from Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh over the latter’s offensive and insulting remark to the disabled community.
“Akmal must issue a public apology – not only to DAPSY leaders but to the entire disabled community.
“If Akmal have nothing respectful or constructive to say, then say nothing. As a leader your words carry weight. Why choose to define and degrade and entire community in this way?” Yap questioned.
In a recent upside down Jalur Gemilang flag gaffe, it was found to be a mistake of disabled staff of SJKC Port Dickson.
Akmal went on verbal diarrhea over the issue.
“Please give them spectacles and a disabled person’s card. Lazy to type long, because they are too dumb to understand,” Akmal was quoted as saying.
Yap said the statement was “deeply offensive” and a direct insult to the disabled community.
“Is Akmal suggesting that they are less worthy? Less deserving? Less capable?”
The DAP leader also pointed out that Akmal was reinforcing stereotypes.
“As a member of the Melaka state government, Akmal should be joining hands in championing inclusivity, not reinforcing stereotypes. His perception is worrying.
“How can Malaysians trust leaders like him to craft and implement policies that are inclusive, fair, and just for all Malaysians, both able and non-able?”
