Using dashcams and GPS? Here is the government stand
The Transport Ministry has taken the approach of encouraging voluntary use of dashcams where as the usage of the global positioning system (GPS) trackers are compulsory.
“The MOT via the Land Public Transport Agency (LPTA) supervises and makes it compulsory for all commercial vehicles to be fixed with GPS, in line with Industrial Safety Code of Practice.
“It is also a mandatory condition in the license that is issued by LPTA to the owners who are required to have a fully functional GPS that is able oversee and record the trips continuously,” said Transport Minister Anthony Loke in a parliamentary written reply.
He said this in response to Roslan Hashim (PN-Kulim Bandar Baharu) who asked whether the government would make dashcam and GPS usage compulsory.
