EPF withdrawals for MHIT, nothing finalised

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clarified that the withdrawal of funds from Account 2 of the Employment Provident Fund to purchase Medical Health Insurance Takaful (MHIT) is merely one of the suggested methods for consumers to purchase their policies.

“If the basic MHIT has been finalised, EPF is willing to consider improvements to the i-Lindung facility that allows the use of Account 2 to purchase basic MHIT products.

“The structure and form of the product has bot been finalised. It is expected to be ready in December this year and will be implemented towards the end of 2026,” said Anwar.

He also stressed that the decision to purchase them would be on a voluntary basis and based on individual choices.

The MHIT is part of the RESET strategy introduced by the government via Bank Negara Malaysia, Health Ministry and the Finance Ministry.

Anwar revealed this in his written reply to Datuk Alias Razak (PN-Kuala Nerus) who asked for the Account 2 savings withdrawal study to pay off health insurance premiums.
