PN claims loose coalition, but PSM did not attend
PSM denied that it is joining a loose coalition against the government that was led by the Perikatan Nasional bloc.
“Our chairman Dr D Michael Jeyakumar was supposed to go but he could not make it,” said Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s deputy chairman S Arutchelvan when contacted.
“Muda chairman Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said that there was a discussion on rising cost of living.”
He said this in response to media reports yesterday that said that 12 opposition parties have agreed to form a loose coalition to champion issues that the government had failed to resolve.
The 12 are Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, Pejuang, Muda, Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP), Putra, Berjasa, PSM, Malaysian Advancement Party (MAP), and the National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman).
The yet to be registered Urimai is also included.
In addition to that PSM via its Facebook also said it had no mandate to join a new coalition.
“PSM’s leadership currently has no mandate to join any new coalition, and we were also not presented with any documents regarding this ‘loose cooperation’. Therefore, we do not know what was discussed today.
“Our recently held congress did not provide any mandate for electoral cooperation with any existing political coalition.
“We will discuss this matter in our central committee meeting this Friday, and will also seek further clarification on this issue,” the party said.
