‘Indian students received more matriculation seats this year than allocated’

More Indian students have been offered matriculation seats this year compared to the quota, revealed Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

“A total of 1,537 Indian students were offered a spot in the Education Ministry’s matriculation program to fill a quota of 1,116 allocated seats.

“Of this figure, 341 students scored 10As in SPM and were given automatic placement. The balance were offered a placement based on merit (90% academic and 10% co-curriculum) and income background.”

“The 90% is based on merit marks of four main subjects based on their stream not based on the number of As,” she said.

Fadhlina revealed this in a written reply to P Prabakaran (PH-Batu).

He had asked for the total statistics, number of top scorers as well as whether balance were filled with Indians students who received 6 to 9As.
