Over 80,000 TikTok content removed, none for criticising the government
A total of 80,657 content on TikTok and 2,854 content on Telegram have been removed following requests made by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), revealed Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
“This puts the overall figure at 83,511 that was removed by the service providers after applications were made by MCMC since the content violated the provisions under section 233 of the MCMC Act,” he said in a written reply.
Fahmi said this in a response to Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Aziz (PN-Tanah Merah) who asked for the number of TikTok and Telegram accounts that have been suspended for criticising the government.
Section 233 does not have provisions that criminalises the act of criticising the government.
