Additional 500 TVET placements available for Indian youths in China

An additional 500 placements for Indian youths to undergo Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses in China would be made available this year.

The suggestion that was raised by Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) chairman P Prabakaran received the green light from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“I approved it. Not for next year but for this year itself it is approved,” said Zahid who is also National TVET Council chairman.

The council had received over 5,000 placement quota from various TVET institutions in China and of that 500 have been allocated for Indian youth.

The government is also allocating additional allocation of RM3 million via Mitra to ensure participants can complete their studies without financial burden.

“A total of 147 participants are going this month. Prior to this 175 participants completed their courses and another 178 would follow suit in October and November,” he said.

In addition two Chinese universities would be offering full scholarship to the participants who would like to further their studies to the first degree level.

The Taizhou Vocational College of Science and Technology offering has a quota of 25 seats in logistics technology whereas Tangshan Polytechnic University is offering 20 seats in automotive maintenance and inspection.

“They are excited to see the competency of Indian youths sent previously.

“The main requirement is one needs to pass the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi or Mandarin Level 3 test,” Zahid said.
