KLIA second busiest airport in Southeast Asia

The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) have rose from the fourth to the second spot among the top 10 busiest airports in Southeast Asia.

It did over a period six months by recording a 10% spike in the number of seats departing between March and August.

According to the Malaysian Airports Holdings Bhd, the spoke is due to several factors – new airlines taking off, more flight routes and visa-free travel for Chinese and Indian tourists, The Star reported.

Last month KLIA’s Terminal 1 and 2 recorded 3.32 million departing seats which is rise from 3.02 million seats in March.

The ranking is provided by Britain based, global travel data provider OAG Aviation.

KLIA also has increased its international destinations from 105 to 117.

According to MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, the number of airlines operating at KLIA has grown from 59 to 66 within a year.

British Airways resumed its operations in KLIA in April after five years.

Other airlines touching down at KLIA are Juneyao Air and Jiangxi Air at Terminal 1, along with Lucky Air, Fits Air, and Hainan Airlines at Terminal 2.

Currently, Terminal 1 serves 52 airlines, while Terminal 2 accommodates 14.

In terms of growth, KLIA saw a growth of 7.5% which puts it in the fourth spot since August last year.
