Stay united Umno, MCA, MIC, reminds one Umno leader

Amid growing calls for BN component parties – Umno, MCA and MIC to part ways, one Umno leader has urged the parties to stay united.

“The reality is we need one another.

“It is meaningless for us to split ways when members and the people want a stable party representing them.

“Breaking up would mean BN is no longer trusted and that is what happened during GE15 when BN offered stability and the people wanted us broken.

“What is the point of BN being broken when we want a strong government?” questioned Umno supreme council leader Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah via a Facebook post.

Shamsul who is also Deputy Home Affairs Minister and Lenggong MP also disagreed to the notion of assessing the contributions and strengths of the BN component parties based on the number of seats won in the elections.

“Historically Umno/BN cannot form a government in Kelantan just because BN was short of two votes. This incident must be a lesson.”

He said this in reference to the Kelantan state election results in 2004 that saw Umno being denied being the government because they were short of two seats.

He also wished that BN no longer loses its component parties as witnessed post GE14.

“In the current political situation, let’s build our strength, instead of creating situations that would increase our weakness.

“BN is a long standing, experienced party in this country that has gone through various trials and tribulations. It is not a new coalition.

“Hence, to all, avoid making statements that can make us grow apart, practice mutual respect and understanding.”

Shamsul is confident that party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would resolve the issue.

MCA, MIC issues

Both MCA and MIC have been issues with Umno’s lack of leadership in BN for over a year now.

Calls for the parties to chart its own way have been simmering.

In MCA, former vice president Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker has been voicing out the concerns of the grassroots for the party to make a clear stand.

Several months ago MIC deputy president Datuk M Saravanan told in an interview that his party felt that it is being neglected like a ‘step child’ in BN.

Since then several state MIC chapters have passed motions calling for the party to chart its own path.

Most recently, MIC sent its youth chief as a representative to attend Bersatu’s annual general meeting.

Some quarters within Umno are in favour of BN components splitting ways since MCA and MIC only have three parliament seats.

The issue is also being viewed with concern by Pakatan Harapan compenent parties.

Johor Amanah and Perak DAP leaders have questioned the actions of MCA and MIC as it impacts the unity government which is made up of Pakatan Harapan, BN, GRS and GPS.
